Driving Patient-Centered Care Through Meaningful Conversations
Leaders have a profound impact on organizational culture. In health care, culture includes how centered our organizations are on what matters most to the patients we serve. Engaging patients in meaningful goals-of-care discussions is critical to providing patient-centered, individualized care. High-quality care can only be achieved when a patient’s care is aligned with their goals, preferences, and values.*
What can we do as leaders at all levels in our organizations to shift the paradigm from a task approach that obtains DNR status on admission to centering care around meaningful conversations held throughout a person’s stay?
Participate in National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD) on April 16 and join health systems and communities across the country in inspiring, educating and empowering the public and our own teams about the importance of advance care planning. Alliant Health Solution’s Demystify Health Care Decision-Making: NHDD Ready, Set, Talk! Event Planning Calendar has a planning framework and resource links to make participation easy and meaningful.

Emergency Preparedness: SAMHSA Resource for Supervisors of Disaster Responders
Disaster response work is a unique experience with both stressors and rewards. It can be challenging for responders to return to their regular duties after completing a disaster response assignment. Additionally, co-workers who maintained the office's ongoing operation during the response period may have also experienced stress. To help ease the transition for disaster responders returning to work, supervisors can manage their employees' stress levels and encourage them to gain perspective on their experience. By recognizing and reducing potential difficulties in the workplace, supervisors can enhance positive consequences for all of their staff. Learn More

Infection Prevention Training: Creating Educational Partnerships with Agencies and Contractual Staff
Many nursing homes face barriers when working with agency and contractual staff as they work to provide and document infection prevention training. Healthy People 2030
Every year in the United States, many people get diseases that vaccines can prevent. Healthy People 2030 focuses on preventing infectious diseases by increasing vaccination rates. Strategies to ensure more older adults are vaccinated in our communities include partnering with our state and local health departments, school districts, barbers and salons, faith-based organizations, and local nonprofits. Teaching people about the importance of vaccines, sending vaccination reminders, and making it easier to get vaccines can help increase vaccination rates.
Seasonal Immunization Campaign Calendar – READY SET GO
For March milestones on immunizations, it’s not about Leprechaun luck; it’s about action. We need to continue to focus on “It’s Not Too Late to Vaccinate” and one more round of re-approaching patients/residents and staff who remain unvaccinated. Monitor state and local health department directives. Follow up with pharmacy to pre-order influenza vaccine for the next 2024-2025 season.
The Seasonal Immunization Campaign Calendar has resource links for planning and easy reference to meet your goals. In addition, the comprehensive Toolkit for Increasing Influenza Vaccination Rates in Nursing Homes is a great resource.
