Novavax: What Is the New COVID-19 Vaccine?

The Novavax vaccine is the fourth to be authorized in the United States to prevent COVID-19. It was recommended by the CDC and given Emergency Use Authorization in July by the FDA. Novavax is administered in a two-dose series, with the second dose three weeks after the first. It differs from the other COVID-19 vaccines because it is made with a protein subunit instead of the mRNA or adenovirus vector. This offers another option for those who were unable or uncomfortable with taking an mRNA COVID vaccine and will, hopefully, improve uptake even more. It is recommended for use in people over age 18. It is not yet recommended for use as a booster.

Getting vaccinated and boosted can help protect everyone. Locate vaccines near you by calling 877-904-5097 or going to the NCRN Support Finder webpage.
