Let the Center of Excellence for Behavioral Health in
Nursing Facilities Support You
 Beginning Spring 2023, the Center of Excellence for Behavioral Health in Nursing Facilities (COE-NF) will provide training and resources to skilled nursing facility staff who care for residents with a variety of behavioral health conditions.
Alliant Health Solutions (AHS) was awarded a three-year cooperative agreement from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to create a Center of Excellence for Behavioral Health in Nursing Facilities (COE-NF). Alliant has over 50 years of experience working with nursing homes and behavioral health in nursing homes.
The COE-NF will provide nursing facilities with direct technical assistance, evidence-based training, and resources on a variety of mental health and substance use topics – at absolutely no cost.
Here’s what you can expect from the COE-NF:

The ability to work with a regional behavioral specialist with expertise in mental health and substance use

Data-informed quality improvement strategies to address the needs of the nursing facility

Alignment with nationally recognized partners with mental health and substance use expertise and resources
The COE-NF is currently conducting needs assessments where nursing facility staff are sharing their insights and experiences. Resources, education and training will focus on addressing and supporting nursing facility needs and challenges such as de-escalation techniques, workforce development and more.
In addition, these care resources will help prepare staff for the new behavioral health survey guidance from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in the most recent State Operations Manual.
